Brendan Meets BMX Champion, Dave Mirra!

Like most 11 year old boys, Brendan
loves sports. Unlike his friends, though, Brendan is diagnosed with Severe Hemophilia, and many times can only
watch his friends play - especially when it comes to BMX biking! Brendan's dream was to ride with his favorite BMX athlete and champion, Dave Mirra! Dave holds the record for the most X Games Gold Medals and is the first rider ever to pull a double back flip in competition! With the help of Wasserman Media Group, Sunshine Foundation was able to reach

out to Dave to answer Brendan’s special dream request. Brendan’s mom shared
some memories of the trip to Dave’s warehouse in North Carolina:

“Our trip was great! Dave was
extremely nice and down to earth.
He and Brendan rode bikes for about
1 1/2 hours, showing Brendan the ramps and doing a lot of tricks! Dave even invited 6 other BMX buddies to meet Brendan and ride together. They were great and willing to teach Brendan
about riding!
Brendan was in his glory! Dave taught Brendan how to ride his bike down a ramp and it took about an hour because Brendan was so
nervous…but he finally did it, over and over again! Brendan had a great time and couldn't be happier - I can’t thank you enough!”
Sunshine Foundation would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dave Mirra for his extreme kindness and Wasserman Media Group for helping to coordinate this incredible dream come true for Brendan!

Sunshine Foundation’s Special Thank You!

Hi, my name is Theresa. I am the mother of dream recipient Bricyn. We are from Mitchell, Indiana. I first heard about Sunshine Foundation when I was looking around on the internet and came across the web site. I had no idea that there was an organization that granted dreamss to disabled children. Bricyn had his dream granted on December 4th and it was to go to some of the parks in Orlando, Florida. The dream included Bricyn, his twin brother Brandyn, his grandmother, and myself.  We visited Sea World, Epcot, and Universal Studios Florida. Bricyn had a wonderful time! I actually saw him smile several times on the trip, which is not some thing he does very often. We had an awesome time! It was a trip to remember and one that I would never have been able to provide for him and his twin brother. Both boys have Charcot Marie Tooth disease which is a progressive disease and has already progressed to the point that both boys depend on wheel chairs at least ¾ of the time. They are not able to walk long distances due to the muscle weaknesses in the legs and feet. They are both facing more surgeries on their feet in the near future. They miss out on so many normal activities for kids their age and this dream made them feel “normal” even if it was only for a few days. Bricyn still talks about the trip to people he sees. This wish was a time for all of us to get a way and forget about the upcoming appointments and surgeries. I am so thankful that there is an organization that exists to provide wishes for not only terminally ill children but also disabled children. These kids miss out on so much in life and these dreams give them hope that better things are to come. I know it meant a lot to Bricyn and to his brother. It was wonderful to see them laughing and happy while on our trip. Once again, thanks so much for all that your organization does!

Bricyn, Brandyn
and their mother
and grandmother enjoy
a day at Universal Studios!
